Essential Details To Plan Your Journey

Arrival & Check-In

Please arrive at the Chama Depot at least 30 minutes prior to departure. This allows time for check-in and to soak in the atmosphere of the rail yard before we leave the station.

What to Wear & Bring

The Rocky Mountains are beautiful but unpredictable. To stay comfortable at 10,000 feet, we recommend:

  • Layered Clothing: Sudden weather shifts are common; bring a jacket even in mid-summer.
  • Sun Protection: The high-altitude sun is intense. Sunscreen and brimmed hats are highly suggested.
  • Sturdy Footwear: For your safety, closed-toe shoes are required when walking in the rail yard and moving between train cars.
  • Eye Protection: If you plan to enjoy the Open-Air Gondola, please wear sunglasses or clear safety glasses to protect against coal cinders.
  • Bug Spray: Mountain mosquitoes can be persistent. A little repellent goes a long way!

Changes & Cancellation Policy

Modifications: Changes can be made until the day before your departure for a $6 fee per ticket. (Errors reported within 48 hours of booking are exempt from this fee).

Cancellations: Full refunds (minus Service Fees and a cancellation fee of $18/Adult or $9/Child) are available if requested at least 48 hours prior to departure.

Important Note: All cancellations within 48 hours of departure, as well as 3rd-party or discount bookings, are non-refundable. All fares include a 7% non-refundable Historical Preservation Fee to keep our steam legacy alive.
