Step back in time aboard our historic Coach Cars. Featuring traditional bench seating and windows that open to the mountain air, Coach offers an affordable authentic narrow-gauge railroading experience. Snacks and beverages are available nearby in the concession car.
360-Degree Mountain Views
Available to all passengers, the Open-Air Gondola is the heart of the train and a favorite gathering place for photographers and railfans. Enjoy unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains, dramatic curves, steam action, and wildlife while our onboard docents share stories from more than 140 years of railroad history.
Please arrive at the Chama Depot at least 30 minutes prior to departure. This allows time for parking, check-in, and exploring the historic rail yard before boarding begins.
Mountain weather can change quickly, especially at elevations above 10,000 feet. We recommend bringing:
Modifications: Changes may be made until the day prior to departure for a $6 fee per ticket. Booking errors reported within 48 hours of purchase are exempt from modification fees.
Cancellations: Full refunds, minus service fees and cancellation fees ($18 per Adult / $9 per Child), are available when requested at least 48 hours prior to departure.
Important Note: All cancellations within 48 hours of departure, as well as third-party and discounted bookings, are non-refundable. All fares include a 7% non-refundable Historical Preservation Fee that directly supports the preservation of our historic steam railroad equipment and infrastructure.
In the fall, we offer additional trips on certain dates at 9 am.
For all Passengers: Our Open-Air Observation Platform (Gondola) provides unobstructed views, great photo opportunities, and a chance to spot some of the abundant wildlife in the area. Throughout the trip, you’ll find friendly, informative guides/docents to take you on this journey of the Authentic West… as it was 140+ years ago, as it is today.
A ride that is budget-friendly. Relax, open your window and take in the fresh Rocky Mountain air. Our classic Coach cars offer comfortable padded bench seating. Snacks and beverages are available in our concession car. Feel free to move about the train and experience the Open-Air Gondola.

Passengers can make changes to their reservations up to the day before their ride. Change fee is $6 per ticket. If there is an error during the original booking, customers must call the reservation office within 2 days of the reservation to avoid being charged the change fee.
Cancellations made 48 hours prior to the trip date are refundable minus Service Fees with a cancellation fee of $18 per adult ticket and $9 per child ticket. Cancellations made after the 48 hour deadline are non-refundable. All Fares Are Subject To A 7% Non-Refundable Historical Preservation Fee. Purchases made through 3rd Party or Discount companies or websites are NON-Refundable and the above cancellation policy does not apply.
