A Journey Through the Stars
Climb aboard the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad for an unforgettable night under one of the darkest skies in the world. Departing from the historic Antonito Station, the Dark Sky Train will journey through the heart of the San Luis Valley, renowned for its crystal-clear skies and minimal light pollution.
Bring your camera, telescope, or binoculars, and prepare for a night of awe and discovery. Local astronomers and guides may be on hand to help you navigate the stars, while the quiet, high-altitude setting creates the perfect backdrop for stargazing.
The Experience
Golden Hour Departure: Your journey begins as the sun begins its descent, casting long, golden shadows across the sagebrush and pines.
Sunset at the Summit: We’ll stop at Big Horn to watch the sky transition through a palette of fiery oranges and deep purples.
Celestial Revelation: Once total darkness falls, the train stops in a “dark sky” zone. With the engines hushed, the Milky Way emerges with such vividness it feels close enough to touch. Our crew and local guides will help point out seasonal constellations, planets, and distant nebulae.
Whether you’re a seasoned astrophotographer or simply love the night sky, the Dark Sky Train offers a rare and magical experience — where the rails meet the stars.
All aboard for a night you’ll never forget!
