Q: Are seats on the train reserved?
A: Yes. Passengers are assigned specific seats when a ticket is purchased. New in 2013 is the ability for the Deluxe Tourist and Parlor classes to select their own seats when booking online or by phone.
Q: Can I ride the train from Chama to Antonito and back
(or vice versa) in the same day?
A: No. But passengers can go one way by train and the other on a comfortable C&TS motorcoach. A passenger may ride the train over a 2 day period in order to ride round trip. The passenger would be required to purchase an additional ticket as well as lodging in the appropriate city to accomplish the full round trip experience. Check out our Schedules and Fares page.
Q: What is the best trip to take?
A: This depends entirely on passengers preferences. Many riders believe that the geologic and structural features on the trip between Antonito and Osier are the most interesting part of the ride. Others think that it is most interesting to experience the work the steam locomotive has to do to pull the train up the 4% grade from Chama to Cumbres Pass in the cool mountain air. All of the trips we offer have their own merits. Our Reservations Specialist can recommend the best trip for each passenger.

Q: Can I buy tickets on the day of the train?
A: Yes. However, the trains often sell out, so we recommend advance purchase.
Q: What are the depot hours?
A: The Antonito depot is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Chama depot is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Q: What if I need to make changes to my ticket
reservation or cancel my trip?
A: Passengers can make changes within 48 hours of booking a reservation a no charge. After 48 hours changes are subject to a $6 per seat fee. Changes must be made up to the day prior to your excursion. Cancellations made 48 hours prior to the excursion are refundable with a cancellation fee of $14 per adult and $7 per child. Cancellations made after the 48 hour deadline are non-refundable.
Q: What is the difference between the parlor car, deluxe tourist car, and coach?
Parlor car guests ride in a carpeted and paneled coach featuring complimentary snacks and beverages.
Deluxe Tourist and Parlor car guests also receive a souvenir gift and complimentary beverage and attendant service. The seating in the tourist car includes a table; the seating in the parlor car faces the windows and includes a bar space.
Coach cars offer comfortable bench seating. Snacks, film, gifts, and souvenirs are available on board. You are welcome to move about the train and experience the Open-Air Gondola.
Q: Are refreshments available on the train?
A: Yes, there is a concession car on each train. Snacks available are popcorn, candy, and pretzels. Beverages available are sodas, water, juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased for those 21 years of age and older.
Q: Can I bring my own food and drinks on the train?
A: Yes, you may bring food and non-alcoholic beverages on board the train.
Q: Are there restrooms on the train?
A: Yes. There are restrooms on the train, motorcoaches, at the Antonito and Chama stations and the Osier dining hall.
Q: Can I smoke on the train?
A: No. Smoking is not permitted at any time on the train nor on any railroad property or equipment.
Q: Can I bring alcoholic beverages on the train?
A: No. Due to our liquor license it is against Federal Regulations to bring alcoholic beverages onto our property.
Q: Can I bring my pet on the train?
A: Only certified service animals accompanied by their masters can be brought aboard the train. Please see our Passenger Information page for more information.
Q: Is the train wheelchair accessible?
A: We have wheelchair lifts available on select coaches and motorcoaches. Please make your reservation at least seven days in advance of departure and notify us at 1-888-286-2737 or at email@example.com. If you use a wheelchair or require assistance, please advise when you book your reservation and re-state those needs within three days of your scheduled ride.
Q: Can I bring a child’s stroller on the train?
A: Yes, although space is limited and it is not recommended.
Q: Can I move about the train?
A: Yes. Passengers are welcome to move from car to car. Please be careful when moving in between cars, as the cars can be subject to sudden jerks. All children must be accompanied by an adult when moving through the train.
Q: Is there an open car on the train?
A: Yes. All trains include an open gondola, and passengers are welcome to spend time there.
Q: How long does the trip take?
A: It takes about six and one half hours to traverse the entire 64-mile line, including the lunch stop at Osier. Depending on the itinerary, trip will last from four and a half hours to approximately eight hours.
Q: How much time do we have for lunch?
A: The train stops at the Osier dining hall for a one hour lunch brought to you by Toltec Gorge Catering Inc. a team that specializes in cooking delectable food and treats at 10,000+ feet (in altitude).
Q: What if I have special dietary requirements?
A: A full salad bar is available for vegetarians. If a passenger has other special dietary requirements, plan on bringing a meal or contact Toltec Gorge Catering Inc., with questions or concerns at firstname.lastname@example.org .
